You have rented a villa in Mallorca, in Deià, Pollença or down towards Santanyí, and you are thinking of bringing in a chef for your stay. A good idea, as long as you know exactly what you are paying for. Here are my packages, what they cover, and the extra costs that apply on the island, hire car included.
The principle: a holiday day when nobody cooks
I come to cook for your whole stay: three days at least, usually the full week. The rate is charged by the day and stays the same from 2 to 10 guests. A large family pays the same daily rate as two couples travelling together.
What changes the price is how many meals you hand over to me. In Mallorca (Majorca, as the island is still often written in the UK), the heat sets the pace of the day, and the packages are built to suit it:
- Confort, from €400 a day: one meal of your choice. Often dinner, served late and outdoors, once the temperature finally drops.
- Sérénité, from €500 a day: two meals of your choice from breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. For instance, a light, fresh lunch in the shade, then dinner.
- Prestige, from €600 a day: every meal, from breakfast through to dinner.
Full details of the packages are on the Mallorca page.
What the day covers
My work, from morning to evening. I shop at the island's markets and directly from producers, depending on the day and where you are staying: the markets move from village to village through the week, and Palma's covered markets and the fish auction at the port make up the rest. The island is not short of good produce: sobrasada, which has protected geographical indication status, olive oil with its own designation of origin, citrus from the Sóller valley, almonds, and fleur de sel from the Es Trenc salt pans.
I plan the menus day by day, according to the morning market and what you feel like in the evening. I cook, I serve, and the kitchen is clean by the time you go to bed. Children, allergies and special diets are all discussed and settled before the stay.
Extra costs specific to the island
Four items are added to the package. Travel, the hire car and my accommodation are costed in the quote before you commit; the shopping is charged at cost, against receipts.
- The food shopping, recharged to the cent, with receipts.
- My travel costs.
- The hire car, which is essential here: the markets are not in the same place from one day to the next.
- My accommodation near the villa for the length of your stay. I find it myself and keep it simple, so that this cost stays as low as possible.
Drinks and wine are not included in the package. On request, I can buy them for you, recharged against receipts like the food shopping. But most of my clients prefer to take care of them: choosing the wines is a part of the stay they love. I am happy to point them in the right direction, especially towards the island's own wines from Binissalem and the Pla i Llevant.
Three sample stays, priced from my rates
This is the cost of the package alone, excluding shopping, travel, car and accommodation.
Five days for ten guests, Confort. Dinner every evening: 5 × €400, making €2,000. That is €40 per person per evening for the chef's work.
Four days for eight guests, Prestige. Every meal: 4 × €600, making €2,400. That is €75 per person per day for four meals.
A week for ten guests, Sérénité. Lunch and dinner for seven days: 7 × €500, making €3,500. That is €50 per person per day for two meals.
Because the rate is the same from 2 to 10 guests, a larger group naturally brings down the cost per person.
On top of this comes the food shopping. We set a budget together before the stay, and I stick to it. At the end of the week, I hand you every receipt: each purchase is there, so you have proof of everything.
What the food shopping costs
Food shopping is not included in the package: it is charged at cost, against receipts. To help you plan, here is an order of magnitude. On my full-package stays, for groups of ten to fifteen people, the shopping comes to around €150 a day, or €10 to €15 per person per day.
| Guests | Food shopping per day, full package (order of magnitude) |
|---|---|
| 4 | €40 to €60 |
| 6 | €60 to €90 |
| 8 | €80 to €120 |
| 10 | €100 to €150 |
These are guidelines, not a flat fee. For a smaller table, the cost per person is often a little higher; with one or two meals a day, it drops accordingly. Exceptional produce and drinks come on top. If you have a budget in mind, tell me: I will do everything I can to stay within it.
Reading the quote
A quote for a chef in Mallorca takes seconds to read. It has three lines, all priced before you say yes:
- The chef's days, at the fixed rate of your package, multiplied by the number of days.
- My accommodation, a simple rental near the villa, for the length of the stay.
- My travel: the journey to the island and the hire car I use while there.
A fourth cost does not appear on the quote, because it only becomes known as the stay goes on: the food shopping. You reimburse it against receipts, within the budget we have agreed together.
To receive yours, tell me about your stay: the dates, the villa, how many of you there are, what you like and anything you do not eat. A phone call or the contact form on the Mallorca page is all it takes. Everything can be handled in English, before and during the stay.
Your questions about a private chef in Mallorca
What does a private chef cost in Mallorca?
I charge by the day: from €400 for one meal a day, €500 for two and €600 for every meal, at the same rate for 2 to 10 guests. On top of that come the shopping at cost, my travel costs, the hire car and my accommodation, all costed in the quote.
Do you charge by the hour or by the evening?
Neither: I charge by the day, for a stay of at least three consecutive days. I do not travel for a single dinner.
How much does a private chef cost for a week in Mallorca?
For seven days: €2,800 with Confort, €3,500 with Sérénité and €4,200 with Prestige, for 2 to 10 guests. Add the shopping at cost, my travel costs, the car and my accommodation. The quote sets out every fixed cost before you agree, and the shopping is added at cost, against receipts.
Is the food shopping included?
No. It is recharged to the cent, with receipts. You pay for exactly what is bought for you.
Do we need to put the chef up in the villa?
No. I find my own accommodation near the villa and keep it simple, so that this cost stays low. You have the villa to yourselves, and I am there at mealtimes.
Should I tip a private chef?
Nothing is expected: the rate covers all my work. If you would like to leave something at the end of the stay, that is entirely up to you.
Book early for the summer
I take on only one stay at a time. July and August dates go first, so do get in touch as soon as yours are set.
